Tesla is recalling much more than 475,000 Product three and Product S sedans to deal with a defect that can lead to the rearview digital camera to prevent operating, the Nationwide Highway Traffic Safety Administration declared Tuesday. Over time, use of the trunk lid can dress in the wiring harness which includes the cable that carries signal from the rearview digital camera to Tesla’s primary command and infotainment screen. Buyers may discover intermittent difficulties with the digital camera exhibit ahead of it fails entirely.

“The Product three trunk harness is outfitted with a sound main coaxial cable that delivers the rearview digital camera feed for visibility on the centre exhibit,” Tesla explained in its recall report to NHTSA. “The coaxial cable is affixed to a harness on the trunk lid and extends or folds as the trunk opens and closes. When the trunk is in a closed state, the harness folds and may working experience a restricted bend radius, stressing the main of the cable.”

“Over time, repeated opening and closing of the trunk lid may lead to abnormal dress in to the coaxial cable. If the dress in triggers the main of the coaxial cable to separate, the rearview digital camera feed is not visible on the centre exhibit,” it explained.

Tesla claims it mail notices to entrepreneurs to deal with the recall by mid-February.
