Michigan governor OKs auto bill that lets dealerships adjust hours, closures

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed off on a bill that will allow the state’s vehicle dealerships regulate their hours for flexibility’s sake.

Beneath the recently approved bill, S.B. 128, dealerships can be open up for a lot less than thirty hours a week for up to four weeks each individual yr. They were being earlier required to be open up for thirty hours a week yr-round.

The bill, which Whitmer signed into legislation Oct. 14, amends the Michigan Vehicle Code, an act that stipulates licensing for dealers. The bill will just take influence sixty days right after the date it was enacted.

Whitmer’s business office says demanding dealerships to be open up for far more than thirty hours a week for all fifty two weeks in a yr could create problems for stores trying to strategy out worker absences. Those extra four weeks with lessened hours could help accommodate worker emergencies or vacations, Whitmer’s business office claimed.

“I am happy to signal legislation that supports our smaller corporations and puts Michigan to start with,” Whitmer claimed in a statement. “Senate Monthly bill 128 lifts limits for Michigan motor vehicle dealerships with no compromising possibilities for shoppers.”
