Mercedes to leave Formula E after 2022

Components E champions Mercedes will withdraw from the all-electric series at the finish of the Gen2 period in 2022 to focus on Components A single, the automaker introduced Wednesday.

The announcement came times soon after Dutch driver Nyck de Vries received the Components E globe championship title soon after finishing eighth in the season’s last race in Berlin, with Mercedes also winning the teams’ title soon after Stoffel Vandoorne’s 3rd area.

“Mercedes-Benz nowadays introduced that it will conclude its ABB FIA Components E success story as a staff entrant and manufacturer at the finish of Year 8, in August 2022,” the manufacturer mentioned in a assertion.

“Relocating forward, the organization will focus its works motorsport pursuits on Components one, reinforcing the sport’s position as the fastest laboratory for establishing and proving sustainable and scalable potential general performance technologies.”

In December, German makers Audi and BMW confirmed they would exit Components E at the finish of this year.

Mercedes introduced a new strategic path for its brand name in July, with the aim of heading all-electric by the finish of the ten years.

“As part of the new strategic path, the brand name has intentionally decided on to change means for this accelerated ramp-up of electrification, which include the improvement of a few electric-only architectures to be launched in 2025,” the carmaker mentioned.

“Therefore, Mercedes will reallocate useful resource absent from its ABB FIA Components E Planet Championship programme and toward applying the classes discovered in levels of competition to product improvement in series.”
