VW recalls 56,000 Golf models for software update

HAMBURG — Volkswagen will recall 56,000 of its bestselling Golf to fix software problems that affect the infotainment system and reversing camera, the German company said on Tuesday.

The fix affects vehicles of the most recent Golf 8 series that were made until July 2020, a spokesman said. He added the recall was not mandatory but was a “voluntary service measure.”

Volkswagen had to postpone the launch of the Golf 8 due to software problems last year.

Its shares were down 1.6% at 1012 GMT, making it the biggest percentage loser in Germany’s blue-chip index DAX.

Renault to form JV with U.S. hydrogen specialist Plug Power for fuel cell vans

PARIS — Renault Group will form a joint venture to develop, build and sell long-range fuel cell electric vans in Europe with Plug Power, a US company that just received a major investment from Korean battery maker SK Group, driving its market capitalization above $25 billion.

Lobbying group unveils policy agenda to speed transition to EVs

The Zero Emission Transportation Association is proposing several federal policies to accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles in the U.S. and maintain the nation’s global leadership in the technology.

The association, which launched in November to advocate for all vehicles sold by 2030 in the U.S. to be electric models, unveiled the federal recommendations in a policy agenda released Tuesday.

As part of its platform, the group is proposing federal lawmakers:

  • Reform tax credits for EV purchases, such as making those incentives available upfront and creating a tax credit for buyers of used EVs.

NADA, bank group to assess political contributions after U.S. Capitol siege

Industry groups including the National Automobile Dealers Association and American Bankers Association say they are evaluating their political contributions after last week’s invasion of the U.S. Capitol, described by NADA as “shocking, tragic and condemnable.”
